Ford recalls 102,159 F-150 and Super Duty trucks: speedometer and tachometer may read wrong

Ford has recalled 102,159 pickups in the United States because the analog instrument cluster may show the wrong vehicle or engine speed. Dealers will replace the cluster; a software update cannot fix it.

What can go wrong

The speedometer or tachometer needle may stick, move erratically or show an inaccurate reading. Ford traces it to how the supplier made the parts. A driver who cannot trust the speedometer may drive faster than intended, which raises the risk of a crash. Ford counted 18 warranty reports and 93 field reports, and no crashes or injuries, CarScoops reports.

What owners should do

  1. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.
  2. Until the repair, if the needle sticks or jumps, use a phone navigation app as a second speed reference.
  3. Interim letters go out October 26 to 30, 2026; letters announcing the fix are planned for December 7 to 11, 2026.
  4. The repair is a new instrument cluster, free at Ford and Lincoln dealers. Ford customer service: 1-866-436-7332.

A faulty speedometer can also affect how you track mileage by eye. Badger logs the odometer reading with every expense, so note the mileage on the new cluster after the swap.
