Hyundai Kona Electric and Veloster N: airbags may not deploy

37,901 vehicles: 2019 to 2023 Kona Electric and 2019 to 2022 Veloster N. A software error in the airbag control unit may deactivate the airbags and the seat belt pretensioners, so they may not work in a crash. That raises the risk of injury. Dealers will update the airbag control unit software for free. Owner letters are planned for January 1, 2027. Hyundai customer service: 1-855-371-9460 (Hyundai recall number 311). NHTSA 26V728

What to do now: the letter is two months away, so check your VIN today and call a dealer to ask when the update is available. If the airbag warning light on your dashboard stays on after you start the car, have it checked as soon as possible; our guide to dashboard symbols explains that light.

  • Mack Medium-Duty Electric (MDe) trucks, 2024 to 2026 (151 vehicles): a hill start assist message was turned on at the factory although the feature should not be active, so the truck may roll back on a slope. Dealers will update the dashboard software and add an owner’s manual correction (NHTSA 26V719).
