Audi Q4 e-tron recalled over battery fire risk: charge to 80% until fixed

Audi has recalled 9,048 Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron SUVs in the United States because the high voltage battery may fail and catch fire. There is no repair yet, so owners are asked to limit charging.

Which cars are affected

Certain 2024 and 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron vehicles. Volkswagen Group of America filed the recall with NHTSA on October 21, 2026 (NHTSA campaign 26V698, Audi recall 93SK). VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 23, 2026.

What can go wrong

According to the filing, the high voltage battery may fail and cause a fire. NHTSA lists the risk as injury from a vehicle fire. The filing does not mark the cars as unsafe to park indoors, and there is no do not drive warning.

What owners should do now

  1. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or with an Audi dealer.
  2. Charge to a maximum of 80% until the repair is available. Most cars let you set a charge limit in the car or in the myAudi app.
  3. Watch for the interim owner letter, expected around December 18, 2026, and a second letter once the remedy is ready.
  4. Questions: Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Limiting the charge to 80% reduces the range you have available. If you rely on fast chargers on trips, plan for slightly more frequent stops. Our guide on EV charging cost shows how to estimate what each stop costs.

Will the repair be free?

Yes. Safety recall repairs are carried out free of charge at authorized dealers. The fix itself has not been announced yet.
